Your 60s Are Not a Countdown
A heartfelt POV on why your 60s are your power decade. Health is wealth and it includes your body, mind, and relationships. Here’s how I’m choosing to thrive beyond 60 with intention.
Your 60s Are Not a Countdown. They’re a Choice.
You don’t need to know what 92 feels like to make smart choices at 62.
I watched a video recently that hit me in the chest.
It was one of those “wake up” messages from a woman in her 90s, talking straight to people in their 60s. The tone was heavy. A little doom and gloom. And I’ll be honest, it would be easy to watch something like that and feel scared.
But that’s not where I landed.
What it really did was remind me of something I already believe deep down.
Health is wealth.
And not just physical health.
I’m talking about the kind of wealth that covers everything:
mental, emotional, social, and physiological.
The kind of health that lets you wake up with energy, think clearly, feel steady, move your body, laugh, love, connect, and still feel like you have a life that matters.
Because here’s the truth.

None of us gets the same timeline.
I’ve been thinking about that a lot lately.
I recently watched a video about Bob Hope, and I learned his wife lived into her 90s. My great grandmother lived to be 93. That’s a long life. That’s a lot of seasons.
But then I think about the other side of my family story.
My grandmother passed away at 63 from cancer.
My mom passed away at 72 from scleroderma.
And my dad is still alive, healthy, living life, and in his mid-80s.
So when people toss around phrases like “60 is the new 40,” I get what they mean… but I also don’t want to live in denial.
Life is not guaranteed. For any of us. At any age.
And here’s the part I want you to hear if you’re anywhere near my age:
That doesn’t have to be scary.
It can be clarifying.
It can be motivating.
It can make you stop waiting.
I don’t have all the answers.
I don’t know what it feels like to be in my 70s, 80s, or 90s. I can’t speak from that perspective. I can’t tell you what your body will do or what life will hand you.
But I can tell you what I know for sure.
I know how I feel right now.
And I feel healthier now than I did 10 years ago.
Even 40 years ago.
That still surprises me when I say it out loud.
Because we’re told aging is only one direction. That it’s all downhill.
But that hasn’t been my experience.
My experience has been this:

The moment you start paying attention, your life starts changing.
Not overnight. Not perfectly. But steadily.
You start learning what your body responds to.
You start making choices that support your future self.
You start building a kind of strength that isn’t just about muscles.
It’s about confidence.
Stability.
Resilience.
Being able to bounce back.
And that’s exactly why I’m so committed to the Plant Based Flex lifestyle and the whole idea of Thrive Beyond 60.
Because to me…
Thriving is not pretending we’re 25.
Thriving is choosing your best life with the body you have now, the wisdom you have now, and the priorities you have now.
Thriving is understanding that “health is wealth” doesn’t mean you’ll never face hard things.
It means you’ll be better equipped when you do.
And maybe that’s the most powerful part of that intense video I watched.
Not the fear.
The reminder.

The choices we make in our 60s ripple forward.
Taking care of ourselves is not selfish.
It’s protective.
It’s loving.
It’s an investment.
And it doesn’t have to look extreme.
For me, it looks like flexing plant power most days.
It looks like meals that help me feel energized instead of inflamed.
It looks like movement that keeps me strong, steady, and capable.
It looks like staying connected to people instead of isolating.
It looks like protecting my peace.
Because yes, we all talk about food.
But thriving goes deeper than food.
Some of the biggest threats to our health after 60 aren’t always on our plates.
They’re in our nervous systems.
They’re in loneliness.
They’re in chronic stress.
They’re in the quiet ways we stop believing we can improve.
And I don’t want that story.
I don’t want to spend this decade acting like I have unlimited time…
…but I also don’t want to spend it afraid.
I want to be present.
I want to be strong.
I want to enjoy my life.
I want to keep hiking, creating, learning, laughing, and building.
And I want to do it in a way that feels honest and sustainable.

A Personal Call to Action (For Me… and Maybe For You)
If you’re reading this and you feel that little nudge too, here’s what I want you to remember:
You don’t need to know what 92 feels like to make smart choices at 62.
You just need to decide that your life is worth taking care of now.
Not when you feel “ready.”
Not when you hit a perfect milestone.
Now.
Because health is wealth.
And wealth compounds.
So here’s my invitation:
Pick one thing today that supports your future self.
One choice. One step. One promise to yourself.
Maybe it’s a nourishing meal.
Maybe it’s a walk.
Maybe it’s calling a friend.
Maybe it’s going to bed earlier.
Maybe it’s saying “no” to what drains you.
Maybe it’s finally saying “yes” to what lights you up.
Whatever it is, let it be small enough to do…
…and meaningful enough to matter.
Because the best time to invest in your future self is always today.
Now I want to hear from you:
What does thriving beyond 60 mean to you right now?
And what’s one small change you’ve made that helped you feel better in your body, your mind, or your life?
