This recipe gives black sesame seeds more than a garnish role.

They add nutty flavor, texture, and a beautiful contrast against golden cauliflower and tofu. The result works as a light meal, snack plate, or appetizer.

Make it your own

If you do not eat tofu, use chickpeas instead.

If black sesame seeds are hard to find, regular sesame seeds work. The flavor will be similar, but the visual contrast will be different.

This is one of those recipes that feels snackable but still has enough protein and fiber to build into a real meal.

— 2 tbsp plain yogurt or plant yogurt
— 2–4 tbsp warm water
— 1 tsp Dijon mustard
— 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
— Pinch of salt
Directions
1
Heat oven to 425°F or air fryer to 390°F.
2
Pat the cauliflower and tofu very dry — this is the most important step for getting crispy edges.
3
Toss cauliflower and tofu with oil, tamari, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and black pepper until evenly coated.
4
Sprinkle cornstarch over the mixture and toss again until everything is lightly coated.
5
Add black sesame seeds and toss once more.
6
Spread on a parchment-lined baking sheet without crowding — space is essential for crisping rather than steaming.
7
Roast 25 to 30 minutes, turning once, until cauliflower is browned and tofu edges are crisp. In an air fryer, cook in batches for 15 to 18 minutes, shaking halfway through.
8
Whisk the tahini dip ingredients until smooth, adding warm water a tablespoon at a time until dippable.
9
Serve warm with the tahini dip alongside.
